Vuleka is a multi-campus school operating from
seven
different church venues and one house. We have one
Managing Director and one administrative
staff for all eight campuses. The majority of pupils travel between 10 and
25 kilometres every day to get to school. Our
taxi drivers collect the children from their homes, and then meet at a central
point in Alexandra and Soweto townships. The pupils then swap taxis and
are transported to the different churches. This should be a logistical
nightmare, but runs surprisingly smoothly because of our competent drivers and
the grace of God.
The Primary Schools
Vuleka operates two full primary schools - Grade 0 to
Grade 7 - in Rosebank and North Riding. A third
primary school is being built at St Michael's, Weltevreden Park.
Early Learning Centres
St
Paul's, St John's and St Francis are Early Learning
Centres. We provide excellent, affordable preschool education for children
living in the surrounding suburbs, or those whose parents work nearby.
Private preschools in these suburbs are generally extremely expensive, but our
Early Learning Centres enable parents who cannot afford these huge fees to give
their children the benefit of education from the age of 3 years. Our aim
is to provide our little pupils with a good foundation which will enable them to
thrive once they leave us and go into Grade 1 at their local government schools.
Our
Special Needs School
Randburg Methodist Church houses our two special needs classes. These
classes cater for pupils who fall into one of the following categories:
-
Over
age pupils
-
Severely learning disabled or remedial pupils
-
Sick
pupils
-
Pupils
who have not been taught in English and need a year to learn the language before
they are mainstreamed
-
Older
pupils who have never attended school before
-
Abused
and traumatised pupils
